A PLACE STEEPED IN HISTORY
OUR GRADE II COUNTRY RETREAT
Nestled along the quiet, tree-lined Boreley Lane lies The Barn at Tytchney. Surrounded by working farm land, the barn sits gracefully beside the historic Grade II-listed Tytchney Gables. The main property’s rich history is well-documented, as Tytchney Gables appears on a map entailed (Dwelling and Farms in Ombersley Parish on the Tithe plan of 1838), and an Ordnance Survey map shows that the earliest date the property is recorded was 1367.
Steeped in Worcestershire’s rural heritage, these buildings whisper stories of centuries gone by. Once the agricultural heart of the estate, The Barn at Tytchney played a vital role in traditional farm life, sheltering livestock, storing grain, and supporting the rhythms of the countryside. Its oak beams, weathered brickwork, and handmade tiles remain as enduring testaments to generations of history.
Today, the barn has been thoughtfully transformed into a peaceful and stylish countryside retreat, preserving its original character while offering modern comforts. From the moment you arrive, you’ll sense the timelessness in the exposed timber, the gently sloping ceilings, and the old brickwork that still carries the warmth of the past.
Set among the rolling fields of Worcestershire, this unique space offers more than just a place to stay; it provides a connection to the land, the history, and the slower rhythms of rural England. Whether you are here to unwind, reconnect, or explore, The Barn at Tytchney offers a truly special setting that blends heritage with heart.

OMBERSLEY
A Glimpse Into Ombersley’s Rich History
Where Centuries of Storytelling Live On
Tucked away in the Worcestershire countryside, Ombersley is more than just a pretty village, it is a place steeped in history, where every timber-framed cottage and ancient hedgerow whispers stories of the past.
The name Ombersley dates back to Anglo-Saxon times, first recorded in the 8th century when the village was part of a royal forest belonging to the Kings of Mercia. For centuries, Ombersley sat within the boundaries of a great hunting forest, shaping its landscape and the lives of those who lived here.
In the medieval era, Ombersley grew around agriculture and trade, its location near the River Severn making it a strategic and fertile area. But it was during the 18th and 19th centuries that the village began to take on the elegant charm seen today. Much of Ombersley’s distinctive black-and-white timber architecture comes from this period, lending the village its postcard-perfect appearance.
At the heart of Ombersley’s heritage stands St Andrew’s Church, an imposing Georgian church designed by famed architect Thomas Rickman and completed in 1829. Built with support from the influential Sandys family. whose legacy still echoes through the village, the church reflects the prosperity and pride of the community at that time.
The Crown and Sandys Arms, once a coaching inn, also harks back to the days when Ombersley was a vital stop on the road between Worcester and Droitwich. Its walls have seen centuries of travellers pass through, from merchants to nobility.
Today, Ombersley remains a vibrant village with deep roots, where the past and present sit side by side. Visitors are welcomed not just by its scenic beauty, but by the feeling that they’re walking through living history, a place lovingly preserved, yet full of life.
